A Dream of Vermilion

Something I wrote on another site last night...

Mon May 11, 2009, 9:34 AM
I am egocentric to an extreme; enough to include the whole U.S. of A. as my mirror-brother-twin; I as a product of it; a microcosm reflecting on its origin; reacting to its patterns like “a poor player’ miming an unintelligible script whose lines are being edited before, during and after the play. I feel I’ve been judged, tried and convicted by my own self in an effort to salvage my lost identity; I’m no longer a worthy actor in the play (and never was); more a member of the audience watching my mirror-brother doing prat falls in an attempt to cover his confusion towards himself—a travesty of the role, he and I, once knew by heart.
Death of ideals, promulgated by my identity brothers, wasn’t real death, just revision, and had worked for my brother before, implying an equation that couldn’t possibly lose, or so I was told by my father (brother) and sanctioned, circumscribed, ideological tube-brother. Our leaders acted like a caricature of themselves traducing the once clean reflection of my country-identity to an imperfect glass…I retreated to the comforting chaos of my own thoughts and denials; I (we) rationalize that we haven’t lost, we just rewrite the script as we go along now, making for a smooth transition of ideal-structure in the double-speak necessary to confuse issues, tube still instructs that our system will prevail, no real lesson is learned. As an audience of oneself we haven’t grown much, and are confused as to what we want (or is important anymore) but are still able to pluck jingoistic strings in other fields of effort. American ideals can be corrupted, some Americans are more equal, power leads to corruption, nothing is certain and that my identity has been lost in the looking-glass. I’m not proud of my past images, nor their sibling models, and sometimes wish that I could have made an accounting of myself when my image was whole and less knowledgable of imperfections; that’s nevermore. I don’t know myself and I don’t think my country-brother ever will. I think your show is providing a template to salvage America’s lost personality and is in search of a new one to reconcile its schizmatic differences.
I am holding my image accountable in this 1:1 relationship; my free association committed me to my actions but doubt if country ‘brother’ can accept its culpability—a learning experience towards health.
Saving Grace could embody abstract religious ideals ‘true’ religion, ‘evil’ and the ‘ideal Christian’, Grace herself has previous transgressions against God and her Catholic religion but she is like a knight who is being seduced by falsehood, in disfavor but not abandonment by God…Earl reminds her of God’s capacity for mercy
and leads her constantly away from disaster…she is a fallen Adam… a knight had the duty to uphold the honor of his order and to defend the dignity of his fellow knights…keep this in mind from The Faery Queen by Spenser…”Where justice growes, there grows eke greater grace, that which doth quench the brond of hellis smart and that accurst hand-writing doth deface. Arise, Sir Knight arise and leave this cursed place.” The worldly domain is Satan’s kingdom. men are born with original sin of Adam’s transgression and if they don’t seek grace and forgiveness continue to add on the weight of the burden…
